Bollier finishes 3rd in 200m butterfly finals, missing spot on US Olympic Team
In the end, a mere .67 seconds stood between Mission Hills’ Bobby Bollier and a spot on the US Olympic Team.
Bollier finished third in the 200 meter butterfly finals at the US Olympic Swim Trials in Omaha, Neb., Thursday evening. Michael Phelps, the world-record holder in the event, finished first at 1:53.65. Michigan’s Tyler Clary edged out Bollier to finish second and secure the final Olympic team berth in the event.
Phelps had a significant lead after the third turn, and didn’t ever appear to be in danger of losing first place. Bollier put in a strong set of pulls with just 25 meters left and looked to be in position to take second, but Clary made a huge late push to catch Bollier in the final meters.
