Buckle those seat belts! PV Police will start Click It or Ticket campaign Monday
Prairie Village residents, be aware: the traffic division of the city’s police department will be out in full force for a week starting next Monday, May 21.
More than 150 agencies are participating in the annual Kansas Click It or Ticket traffic enforcement campaign. Prairie Village officers will be “aggressively enforcing Kansas occupant restraint and other traffic laws” during that period.
According to statistics, traffic accidents are most likely to occur within five miles of a person’s home.
“Everyone knows there are seat belt laws and that seat belts and child safety seats save lives and reduce injury,” said Capt. Wes Lovett. “But too many drivers play the odds and don’t buckle up. But when a crash does happen…the two seconds it takes to buckle up looks like a smart investment.”
Per Kansas law, all occupants in a vehicle must be properly restrained. Passengers ages 14 and over will be cited individually for violations of state law. If a passenger under the age of 14 is not restrained, the driver of the car will receive the citation.
Kids 4 to 7 must be securely belted into an approved booster seat unless they are taller than 4′ 9″ or heavier than 80 pounds.
