After three year drought, Lancers boys retake Kansas tennis title
The Lancers are back on top of Kansas high school tennis.
After finishing second place to Blue Valley North in the 2011 state 6A tournament, SM East won 10 of 11 matches in the opening round of last weekend’s championships in Wichita, setting them on the path that brings the title trophy back to Prairie Village for the first time since 2008.
Though the Lancers didn’t take any of the individual event trophies, their performance as a team was enough to best Blue Valley North, which won the state title the past three years. Doubles team Jackson O’Gorman-Bean and Jake Glazer took second place overall. Drew Surface and Reese Goulding took third place in doubles.
In singles, SM East’s top performers were Brooks Kendall, who took third place overall, and Jamie McDonald, who took ninth.
The team scored a total of 50 points, beating Blue Valley North by 23.
