Shaffer names committee appointments for coming year, placing newly elected councilmembers

Prairie Village Mayor Ron Shaffer has released his committee appointments for the following year, placing the newly elected city council members and replacing those members who were unseated in April’s elections.

The new Parks and Recreation Committee Chair is councilwoman Laura Wassmer, who served as vice-chair for long-time chair Diana Ewy Sharp, who lost her council seat to Ted Odell. New councilwoman Ashley Weaver, who was deeply involved in parks and traffic island issues as an official with the Prairie Village Homes Association, is now vice-chair.

Odell has been named the council’s Planning Commission liaison, replacing the unseated Al Herrera. Odell is an electrical contractor with years of construction experience.

Brooke Morehead, the newly elected councilwoman from Ward 4, will serve as vice-chair of the Communications Committee and will serve on the Jazzfest Committee.

Michael Kelly, who had been assigned to only the Tree Board after his loss to Shaffer in last year’s mayoral election, has been named chair of the Homes Assocation Committee and was also named to the Finance Committee.
