SM East’s Bye, Bye Birdie garners three Blue Star nominations from Starlight
Take a bow, SM East theatre program.
Starlight Theatre last week announced the nominees for the annual Blue Star Awards, which recognize the metro-area’s top high school musical theatre productions and performances, and SM East received three nods.
Lily Kaufmann is nominated in the Best Actress in a Lead Role category for her portrayal of Rose Alvarez in Bye, Bye Birdie. Maddie Roberts is nominated in the Best Actress in a Featured Role category for her portrayal of Ursula Merckle. And the entire Bye, Bye Birdie cast is nominated in the Best Emsemble category.
“I was thrilled for [Lily and Maddie],” said SM East theatre director Brian Cappello. “But I was even more thrilled that the entire cast got nominated for Best Ensemble. It’s great to recognize all the hard work that everyone puts in.”
The awards will be announced during a program May 24 at Starlight. SM East won the Blue Star award for Best Production in 2003 for Little Shop of Horrors.
