Challenger Morehead, incumbent Beckerman prevail in PV City Council primary

Incumbent Dale Beckerman and challenger Brooke Morehead emerged from a three-person primary race Tuesday for the Ward 4 seat on the Prairie Village City Council, sending both onto the general election ballot April 3.

Morehead came out on top of the results, with 196 votes, or 42 percent of the total. Beckerman was second with 157 votes (34 percent) and challenger Tim Pickell came in third with 109 votes (24 percent). Pickell attributed the loss to getting a late start on the campaign.

“If I was going to do it over again, I would have started a little earlier,” he said. “The leg work [Brooke and Dale] did, I got started on that kind of late. I think if I had a little more time to make calls and knock on doors, I could have picked up another 100 votes.”

Moorehead issued a statement after the win, saying she was “thrilled with the results.”

“However,” the statement reads, “there is a long way to go before we see real change in Prairie Village. I appreciate Dale’s service. But I will continue to ask for your vote and I’m looking forward to meeting more neighbors in Ward 4.”

Beckerman said he was pleased with the outcome, and that he planned to run an active general election campaign.

“We’ve been working hard to keep this a good suburban residential community for young and old alike. I think the majority of the ward was in favor of that,” he said. “It’s been a privilege to do this for four years, and I look forward to the campaign. I’d like to do it for four more.”

Pickell said Tuesday that he had not yet considered whether he would offer support to either of the other candidates.

“Philosophically, I believe it’s really healthy to have periodic change, at any level of government,” Pickell said. “But, honestly, I’d have to sit down and think about who i would support. I just don’t know right now.”
