PV Municipal Foundation’s gingerbread party turnout doubles
Brighton Gardens’ dining and activities area was filled Sunday with the scent of freshly baked gingerbread and the sight of smiling youngsters and their parents. For the third year in a row, Prairie Villagers turned out for the Prairie Village Municipal Foundations’ annual Gingerbread House Decorating Party.
Mely Ballard, owner of Mely’s Yogurt and Ice Cream at Corinth Square, again donated the time and supplies to bake and construct the houses — and had a bigger-than-ever set of orders to fulfill. The approximately 60 reservations for this year’s event was twice the turnout from last year.
“I was up until midnight two nights in a row baking,” Ballard said. “But I love doing it.”
Municipal Foundation leader Barbara Vernon, who served for many years as the Prairie Village city administrator, said the funds raised by the event will again go to providing summer activities scholarships for Prairie Village families.
“We were able to help out six families with the scholarships last year,” Vernon said. “We’ll be able to help many more this year.”
The Municipal Foundation will start accepting applications for the summer activities scholarships in February or March.
