New poll: Should Prairie Village have a ballot measure on increasing sales tax to fund parks?
It appears it will be a few months before the Prairie Village city council decides whether to go to voters with a proposition on raising the city’s sales tax by .5 percent to raise approximately $1 million a year to fund parks improvements and maintenance. But we’re interested in your initial reactions to the idea of putting out a ballot proposition on the matter.
A .5 percent increase would bring Prairie Village’s sales tax to 10.025 percent at stores in the Village Shops and Corinth Square CIDs and 9.025 percent everywhere else. Similar propositions put to voters in Mission, Shawnee, Lenexa and Roeland Park passed in 2002, 2004, 2008 and 2010, respectively, with approvals of greater than 55 percent.
So, do you think the council should approve putting a ballot measure before voters?
