Holiday Open Houses, Mayor’s Christmas Tree lighting come to Prairie Village today

Alright, kids: Break out those Big Chief tablets and your Crayolas (or your iPad…whatever is you all write on these days), ‘cause you’ve only got 12 hours to polish off those Christmas lists for Santa.

The elf – who has been previously described as right, jolly and old – will be at Corinth Square tonight for the 26th annual Mayor’s Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony. The festivities begin at 6 p.m. outside the Wild Bird Center (at the southwest corner of the main building). Mayor Ron Shaffer and Santa will be helped out by the Belinder Elementary School Choir and Dancerz Unlimited with some pre-tree lighting entertainment. There will also be hot chocolate and cookies. And, like, general holiday merriment, we would imagine.

Merchants at both the Village Shops and Corinth Square will be holding Holiday Open Houses with discounts all day long, with many donating a percent of sales to the Prairie Village Municipal Foundation. Last year, residents and businesses donated more than $11,000 to the Mayor’s Holiday Fund, helping support Prairie Village charitable activity.
