SM East journalism program brings home treasure trove of awards

Have we mentioned lately that SM East’s journalism program is pretty special?

Two weekends ago, the Harbinger, Harbinger Online and Hauberk picked up four Best in Show placings at the National Scholastic Press Association/Journalism Education Association’s Fall National High School Journalism Convention.

Several students won awards recognizing their individual work, as well. They were:

Andrew Goble, who won News Story of the Year for a piece on cyber bullying.

Kat Buchanan, who won Editorial/Opinion Story of the Year for a personal account about underage drinking.

Danielle Norton, who won second place in the Feature Picture of the Year competition.

Lindsey Hartnett, who won third place in the News Picture of the Year competition.

Toni Aguiar, who won second place in the Infographic competition.

Others who earned honorable mentions or other recognition for their work were Grant Heinlein, Andrea Zecy, Duncan MacLachlan, Becca Brownlee, Andrew Beasley, Jake Crandall, Emily Donovan, Tom Lynch, Toni Aguiar, Helena Buchmann, Brendan Dulohery, and Grant Kendal.
