Reason to give thanks: PV foundation’s Brush with Kindness program
What with it being Thanksgiving and all, we thought we’d spend a little more time on a story we told you about last week. The “A Brush with Kindness” program made possible through a joint collaboration between the Prairie Village Municipal Foundation and Heartland Habitat for Humanity has already had a huge impact for two Prairie Village homeowners and their neighbors. With funds from the Municipal Foundation and volunteers from local churches and companies, the program was able to transform two homes that had fallen in disrepair and whose owners weren’t in a financial position to get the needed work done.
Prairie Village codes enforcement officer Marcia Gradinger, who was integral in getting the program organized, put together a slideshow demonstrating just how much the group was able to accomplish over a few days of work:
If you’re looking for ways to contribute to the Municipal Foundation’s efforts, the group has two fundraising events coming up right around the corner:
Prairie Village Mayor’s Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony, Thursday, Dec. 1. 6 p.m. at Corinth Square. The ceremony helps to raise money and awareness of our residents who need extra assistance this time of year with utility bills and home maintenance.
Gingerbread House Parties , Sunday, Dec. 11. All gingerbread houses are made fresh by Mely Ballard of Mely’s Yogurt and Ice Cream, and then everyone gets to decorate them with the candy supplied. This year both Gingerbread House sessions will be held at Brighton Gardens.
Visit the Municipal Foundation’s website for information about making your reservation.
