JoCo officials trying to find root of foam in Brush Creek near country clubs

Johnson County wastewater and environmental officials are trying to get to the bottom of what caused mounds of foamy suds to pile up along Brush Creek Tuesday morning after the night’s rains.

The stretch of the creek that flows east of Kansas City Country Club, in particular, saw noticeable accumulation in the morning, though it had largely dissipated by the afternoon.

Mission Hills city administrator Courtney Christensen said the city’s stormwater engineer had traced the suds to a break in a sanitary sewer line near 71st Street and Mission Road. But Johnson County Wastewater officials were still waiting to confirm the break Tuesday evening. The county’s environmental agency said it planned to send an official out to test the creek water Wednesday morning.
