Kansas City Christian boys celebrating latest state soccer title
SM East isn’t the only local school celebrating a state fall sports title.
Kansas City Christian’s boys soccer team took home its fifth state championship in 11 years Nov. 5 with a victory over Lenexa’s St. James Academy at the 1-4A tournament in Winfield.
Coach Allan Chugg, who is also KCC’s principal, said this year’s team was a special group — with players from every high school grade making significant contributions.
“These guys were genuinely a team, in every sense of the word,” he said. “It’s really remarkable the way they became like a machine.”
The soccer title was a fitting follow up to the individual tennis title KCC sophomore Sara Goodwin brought home at the Kansas 1-3A tournament in October.
