A Fairway mom’s successful online boutique has taken retail form at Corinth Square for the holidays.
The La Plates POP UP Shoppe will be open in a storefront just south of Social Suppers through early December. Owner Lara Hazelett Shelton launched the La Plates website in 2008, offering kid-friendly melamine plates that could be customized with initials or names. As the mother of two boys, Shelton says the idea was to merge the worlds of “plastic pirate plates and her grandmother’s fine china.”
The idea was a hit, getting positive write ups in House Beautiful, Elle Decor, and Martha Stewart Living, among others. The business has now expanded to include totes, cell phone covers and other customizable items.
For the past few years, Shelton has taken her wares around the country for holiday trunk shows, but says she’s excited to staying in the Kansas City area this year. The store will be open Monday-Saturday 10 a.m.-3 p.m. through December 3.
