Fairway offering optional curbside leaf pick up program again

Fairway organizes a curbside leaf pickup program for residents, but it costs up to $61 a year to participate.
The city of Fairway is again offering citizens the option of curbside leaf removal. The leaf removal program, which the city started in 2009, lets homeowners rake their leaves to the edge of their yards, where crews from Benjamin Lawn & Landscape service remove them with large vacuum trucks.
The cost is $31 for the first removal only, $44 for the second removal only, or $61 for both removals. The first removal for Fairway wards three and four will be next Monday, Oct. 31. Ward two will have crews coming through Nov. 6 and ward one will have crews coming through Nov. 7. The second round of removals begins Nov. 20.
Fairway is asking residents who opt to participate in the program to keep their leaf piles as long and narrow as possible, and to make sure they don’t block gutters or sidewalks.
