St. Ann kids take message of world peace to the streets

Francie Reda and Kasey Nelson were among the students to plant their pinwheels at St. Ann Catholic School.

Students from St. Ann Catholic School recognized yesterday’s International Day of Peace by filling the yard outside their school with more than 450 personally crafted pinwheels.

The event was the idea of school Prinicipal Becky Akright, who wanted to encourage students to think about what peace means to them. The kids wrote messages and prayers about peace on their pinwheels and decorated them.

Dozens of students from the school gathered outside the church along Mission Road Wednesday to plant their pinwheels alongside a sign encouraging people to pray for peace.
