Planned dip for doggies another vicitim of crypto crackdown at Prairie Village pool
Kids looking forward to a big Labor Day weekend at the pool aren’t the only victims of the precautionary measures to stop cryptosporidium infection at Johnson County pools. Cuddly canines will feel the effects of the anti-crypto crusade as well.
Prairie Village has been forced to cancel its inaugural Paws in the Pool event, which had been scheduled for Friday, Sept. 9. For $5, Prairie Village dog owners were going to be able to bring their pooches to the pool for a dip before it was drained for the season.
With the cryptosporidium outbreak, however, the pool has been closed early for the season and Paws in the Pool has been canceled.
“It’s a real shame, because Animal Control had put a lot of work into that event,” said Chris Engel, who oversees parks and recreation programming for Prairie Village. “We’ll have to wait until next year to give that program a try.”
In Fairway, parks officials let residents know Monday that their traditional season-ending Pull the Plug Pool Party had been canceled as well.
