You hear a lot about how good the turkey hunting is in Kansas. You just don’t tend to hear about it in Prairie Village.
Reader Emily Liggett was driving down Delmar Street toward 62nd Terrace yesterday when she spotted a large bird perched on a fence. She snapped a couple of photos and sent them our way:
“Is it a turkey? Hawk?” Liggett wrote. “I have lived in Chicago for the past 9 years, so maybe the turkeys have moved in while I was gone?”
A look in “The Guide to Kansas Birds and Birding Hotspots” suggests it’s either a wild turkey or a turkey vulture. And we actually had a guy who lives a block south of the Village Shops send us a message a couple of months ago saying he’d seen a similar sight, but we couldn’t open up the video he took.
So, anyone know anything about a resurgence of turkeys or turkey-esque birds in our fair city?
