Electrical storm downs branches, power in Prairie Village, Fairway

Many Prairie Village and Fairway residents will spend time this morning dealing with the aftermath of the powerful electrical storm that swept through the area Tuesday night.

Heavy winds and rain felled large branches at residences around the Village Shops and elsewhere. KCP&L reports that 431 homes, 5 percent of their customers, are without power in the 66208 zip code. Things are slightly worse north of Prairie Village, where 8 percent of customers in the 66205 zip code are powerless.

Still, things are worst in the Shawnee and Merriam area, where between 10 and 20 percent of customers are currently without power.
