Tavern in the Village hosting a fruit-forward evening

Tavern in the Village has landed a cherry spot in a national food showcase.

The Village Shops restaurant was selected to represent Kansas on national Rainier Cherry Day (that’s today, July 11, if you didn’t have it on your calendar already). An organization representing cherry growers in Washington State selected one restaurant in each of the 50 states to participate in a food celebration highlighting the sweet ingredient.

Tavern will be unveiling its special cherry menu item for the month — a seared duck breast topped with pink peppercorn Rainier cherry cabernet sauce — and also holding its first ever monthly wine tasting social. The wine tasting, which costs $10 per person, features light appetizers served alongside three northwest wines. The wine tasting will run 4:30-6:30 p.m.
