Vote on future of Mission Valley site could come tonight
The Shawnee Mission Board of Education is expected to take up the issue of selling Mission Valley Middle School at its meeting tonight. The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at the McEachen Administrative Center, 7235 Antioch Road.
At its last meeting, the board directed legal staff to compile a document comparing the offers it received for the property prior to a June 20 deadline. At the time, the highest offer was for approximately $4 million from RED Development. Two other development firms, LANE4 and Price Brothers, had submitted letters of intent to put in bids for the property, but, according to the Kansas City Star, Price Brothers has since withdrawn its offer. The district has not released information on how many formal offers it received for the properties prior to the deadline.
Prairie Village Assistant City Administrator Dennis Enslinger told PVPost.com last week that the city will be putting out a request for proposal seekings consultants to conduct a formal planning process for the Mission Valley site. The planning process would take three to six months, and a buyer for the site would unlikely be able to secure necessary rezoning to start development prior to its completion.
