Brighter, more energy efficient streetlights coming to Prairie Village
There’s a good chance you’ll notice brighter nighttime lights on Prairie Village streets in the coming months.
After beginning a trial program late last year, the city will be permanently replacing many of its current streetlights with brighter, more energy efficient models. As part of Smart Lights for Smart Cities, a Mid-America Regional Council-administered project funded in part by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, Prairie Village will retrofit 243 street lights. New LED lights will replace incandescent and mercury vapor models in wards throughout the city.
The new lights run at 100 watts, and will in many cases represent a significant energy savings over the current models, which can run up to 400 watts.
Prairie Village is one of 26 Kansas City metro-area cities participating in the program.
