UMB holds groundbreaking at site of new Prairie Village bank

City and county officials joined UMB staff yesterday for a formal groundbreaking ceremony on the new bank building at 6900 Mission Road, the former site of Roney’s Service Station.

The new UMB location, tentatively slated to open in late September or early October, is being constructed to meet LEED certification standards.

The environmentally friendly features of the new building will include: day lighting and lighting controls, a high efficiency mechanical system, highly reflective roofing and concrete paving, onsite project recycling during construction and after completion, and water-saving plumbing fixtures. The facility is also being building using low emitting paint, carpet and sealants, as well as recycled and regional materials.

UMB has pledged to have its associates help build a rain garden at Shawnee Mission East this fall, and will be donating a solar panel to the school’s Environmental Science department.
