Court documents shed light on possible motives in alleged assault by retired SM East teacher
A story in today’s Kansas City Star has more details about the alleged assault on retired Olathe School District teacher Lisa Black by her husband, retired SM East teacher Reed Black.
According to documents filed by Lisa Black in Maine court, Lisa and Reed had been having marital problems. Lisa inherited $4 million from her father when he died, and had been upset that Reed was taking some of the inheritance money without her permission.
The documents also claim Reed was conducting an online relationship with a girlfriend in Arizona. Lisa Black also says she suspects Reed had tried to harm her twice before: once during a hiking trip, when he allegedly struck her in the head while she was walking near a cliff. Afterwards, Reed said he had passed out and his head had hit hers. The other incident occurred when Lisa was standing at the bottom of a ladder Reed was climbing on. He fell on top of her, claiming again that he had passed out.
The police report says that while the couple had been in counseling, “Charles [Reed] feels that everything seems to be going well in their marriage at this time.”
Reed appeared in court Tuesday. Bail was set at $250,000.
