More documents for consideration in council travel issue

We’ve received a few more items we thought it would be worth to put out there regarding the accusations of excessive spending by the Prairie Village city council and mayor.

• Diana Ewy Sharp obtained the receipt for her stay at the Mandarin Oriental hotel in Washington D.C. Click here to take a look. Ewy Sharp charged $646.93 to the city and an additional $127.30 to a personal credit card for meals and entertainment for a three night stay.
• Jori Nelson sent along the documents she used to compile research for the speech she made at Monday’s city council meeting. Click here, here, here and here to download the documents. UPDATED: We should note that these documents account for charges billed to the city’s Conferences and Training budget. That budget item includes costs associated with  out-of-town events as well as local events. I’ll see if I can get a full description of items that fall into this category from the City Administrator next week.
• Longtime Prairie Village volunteer Kathy Peterson, who was instrumental in bringing in the skate park and organizing the first Jazz Fest, has written an open letter regarding the controversy surrounding the accusations of excessive spending. In it, she takes Nelson to task for what she views as alarmist charges:

I doubt seriously that Ms. Nelson, a Prairie Village “resident” has ever set foot anywhere near city hall in any other capacity than to waste staff time with dramatic and unnecessary accusations. I also would like her to take a good hard look at the city that she lives in and look at all of the advantages and conveniences of this city and that those very staff members, officials and council members she is riding her saddles of infamy on are the ones who diligently and relentlessly work to preserve our way of life here in PV.
