Shawnee Mission schools won’t add extra school days to make up for inclement weather
Well, kids: you’re in luck.
The Shawnee Mission School District has determined that even with six missed school days on account of inclement weather, students will have logged enough “contact hours” to meet minimum state requirements. Which means that instead of tacking on days to the end of the school year and putting summer break farther away, you’ll be getting out as previously scheduled. Students in first through eleventh grades will get out Thursday, May 26. Kindergarteners will be done Wednesday, May 25.
SM East seniors will have to attend a portion of the day Monday, May 23 to ensure they meet state requirements, said district spokeswoman Leigh Anne Neal.
And Mission Valley students will be dismissed two days earlier than their Indian Hill peers, on Tuesday, May 24, to allow the district extra time to prepare to close the school down for good.
