Prairie Village native, international opera star DiDonato to take stage in Wichita
Prairie Village native and internationally acclaimed opera star Joyce DiDonato is set to take the stage in her home state next weekend for the Wichita Grand Opera’s Tenth Anniversary Gala.
DiDonato will join fellow Kansan Samuel Ramey and Wichita State alum Alan Held in the gala performance March 26, “There’s No Place Like Home.”
Since leaving Prairie Village to study voice at Wichita State in the late 80s, DiDonato has taken the opera world by storm, garnering praise for a voice that The Times of London called “a mezzo cast in milk chocolate, so smooth and agile that it can reach up to a diamond-bright soprano as well as sink to a rich, chesty alto.”
