Briarwood kindergartners get taste of Japan
Students and teachers helped transform Briarwood Elementary into a Japanese tea garden, if only for a day, earlier this month.
As part of activities to increase their awareness of other cultures, Briarwood kindergartners got to have a Japanese tea party, complete with cultural cuisine like sticky rice and edamame (or “eda-mommy” as some pronounced it).
And, of course, there was green tea — which didn’t go over very well, according to the district.
Students practiced eating with chopsticks, and got to hear stories from a kindergartner and his fifth grade sister who had lived in Japan.
