2010 out with a bang: thunder, hail pelt area in early morning storm

Pea-sized hail hit the area in the early hours of New Year's Eve day.

Many area residents had a rude awakening just a bit before 5 a.m. Friday morning, when a winter thunderstorm brought a noisy barrage of pea-sized hail.

The hail wasn’t large enough to have done much damage, but sub-zero temperatures combined with the hail and rain are making for slick conditions. Motorists are encouraged to use extra caution when driving this morning.
