Curious Sofa closing sale draws huge crowds

There were long lines at the Curious Sofa cash register Sunday.

Curious Sofa certainly isn’t closing up shop due to lack of interest in its products.

The first day of the store closing sale drew a huge crowd on Sunday, with lines for the cash registers literally winding through the store. An hour after the start of the sale many of the goods, which were 25 percent off, had already been sold. Devoted fans were lamenting the store’s passing, saying they would miss the shabby chic inspiration owner Debbie Dusenberry provided.

Curious Sofa began selling goods “smaller than a lamp” online in August. The decision to operate as an online store arose as a response to the store’s national fan base, Dusenberry said. But, she added, patrons needn’t fear — she plans on holding future events to utilize the design power of the store’s beloved staff. She encouraged folks to keep in touch via Facebook and the store’s blog to see what the future holds.
