Police stop burglary in progress, three schools put on lockdown
Details are still coming in, but Prairie Village city officials have confirmed that a burglary in progress was stopped this morning. Three suspects were apprehended in the neighborhood near Indian Hills Middle School after a vehicle and foot chase. The area was swarming with law enforcement activity including officers from six agencies. A Kansas Highway Patrol helicopter and a Leawood police canine unit were part of the operation.
Three local schools — Highlands Elementary, Prairie Elementary, and Indian Hills — were on lockdown during the incident.
UPDATE #1: Fox 4 News reports that a neighbor saw the burglars kick in the front door of a home, run in and grab a flat screen TV. The neighbor followed the suspects in a car. The schools were put on lockdown at 9 a.m. and the lockdown was lifted at 9:40 a.m. All three of the suspects were in custody by 10 a.m.
