Prairie Village churches and synagogues collaborate on Thanksgiving service
Members of several local churches and two synagogues came together at Asbury United Methodist Church, 5400 West 75th St., Sunday afternoon for the annual ecumenical Thanksgiving service.
Participating congregations included Prairie Baptist Church Congregation Ohev Shalom, Cherokee Christian Church, Village Presbyterian Church, Colonial United Church of Christ, Southminster Presbyterian Church, Congregation Kol Ami, and Faith Lutheran Church.
Asbury minister Steve Langhofer told the audience that the annual service was now at least 30 years old, having started back in the 1970s.
The service included a special offering to raise money for Veronica’s Voice, a non-profit group that works to reduce human trafficking. Members of the Santa Fe Trail Elementary fifth grade choir sang three songs, including this ode to cranberries:
