What to do in northeast JoCo this weekend

Looks like a weekend of fun, fun-sized candy bars, and fundraising.

Friday, Oct. 22:

  • SM East vs. SM West. 7 p.m., SM South Stadium. After having been named Hy-Vee’s High School Game of the Week, you can bet that the Lancer and Viking faithful will be out in full force. But bring a Columbia blue rain jacket — the forecast isn’t friendly.
  • Operation Until the Whole World Sees. 5 p.m., Brookside Optical. If football’s not your thing, and you feel 1.) like live music, and 2.) like being charitable, stop by Brookside Optical, 6935 Tomahawk Road, for Operation: Until the Whole World Sees. In addition to a band plus food and drink, they have a live auction starting at 7 p.m., and will be announcing the winners of a trip for two. Proceeds go to benefit Lion’s Club.

There will be a costume parade at Peterson Park Sunday.

Saturday, Oct. 23:

  • SM East SHARE garage sale.             8 a.m.-2 p.m., SM East gym. Garage sales are great. Mega garage sales are better. The gym will be packed with clothes, household items, holiday decorations, books, furniture and more. With more than 1,000 student participants, SHARE is the largest student-run, youth-based volunteer group in the country. And if you’re in the Halloween spirit, we’re told that one of the more interesting items at this year’s sale is a “huge iron thing that looks like a cauldron for witch’s brew.”

Sunday, Oct. 24:

  • Fairway’s Trail of Tricks & Treats. 5-7 p.m., Peterson Park. If you’ve got kids who simply can’t wait a week to put on that Halloween costume, Fairway’s got you covered. There will be a costume parade at 5:30, as well as food, carnival games and pumpkin decorating. The event is geared towards kids up to age 12.
