Lancers taking 3-0 record into game against defending state champs
You might think the Lancers football team would be on edge.
After all, they’re taking an unblemished record — the first 3-0 start to a Lancers season in…a while, and one of only two 3-0 records in the Sunflower League — into tonight’s game against the defending state champion Olathe North Eagles.
A victory could give the program a huge boost. A loss might trip up their momentum.
But, according to head coach Chip Sherman, it’s been business as usual on the practice field all week.
“We’re preparing as we normally would,” Sherman said. “We look at this as just another game in the process. Our goal is to get better every game, so that we can be at our very best at the end of the year.”
Still, Sherman said he knows the Olathe North squad will pose a challenge.
“They’re really a good team,” Sherman said. “We’re going to have to play a mistake-free game, and we’re going to have to take advantage of any mistakes they make.”
Sherman said he feels the Lancers have played good ball early in the season, and have demonstrated a drive to keep getting better.
“I love their attitude,” he said. “These kids just work extremely hard.”
The game starts at 7 p.m. tonight at the Olathe District Activity Center, 20925 W. 159th St., Olathe, Kan. 66062 (Please note that due to construction on Lone Elm Road, all visitors must access the complex from the east via 169 Highway and 159th Street.)
